As people’s safety awareness continues to increase, the number of airbags equipped in cars is increasing. From the beginning, cars only installed one driver’s airbag to the beginning of configuring airbags for the co-driver. As the importance of airbags becomes increasingly prominent, six airbags have become standard for mid-to-high-end models, and many models even have 8 airbags installed. According to estimates, the average number of airbags installed in cars has increased from 3.6 in 2009 to 5.7 in 2019, and the number of airbags installed in cars has pushed up the overall demand for airbags.
01 Understanding Airbags
Airbags are mainly composed of three core technologies: electronic control unit (ECU), gas generator and system matching, as well as airbag bags, sensor harnesses and other components.
All airbag controllers have an electrolytic capacitor inside, which functions as a battery (batteries are actually large capacitors in nature). The purpose is that when a collision occurs, the power supply may be accidentally disconnected or actively disconnected (to prevent fire). At this time, this capacitor is needed to maintain the airbag controller to continue working for a period of time, to ignite the air plug to protect the occupants and record the status data of the car during the collision (such as speed, acceleration, etc.) for subsequent possible accident cause analysis.
